So here I am sitting at home, not watching the Stanley Cup Playoffs, not watching baseball, not watching the NBA conference finals, but instead watching the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
You can say what you want about the excitement of watching football, hockey, basketball, baseball… okay well maybe not baseball, but nothing matches the shear intensity of spelling. Man or Woman vs. The English Language. These 12-13 year old kids are spelling words that have no business even existing.
You can feel the nerves as these young kids stand up there and spell freakish words like “ophelimity” (even my wordpress spell check thinks I spelled a word wrong, a freakin’ computer cant even figure out the word). They are like rock-stars of the nerd world, and so they should be. Watch the kid below, the competition is so intense he faints, gets up, and then spells the word right.
I’ll keep it short because I almost feel embarrassed writing a basic blog while 12 year olds are on TV spelling “Anasazi” and “psittacosis“. But if you are looking for excitement, suspense, the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat tune into the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Cheers!
